Stop! No More Low Carb Lies!

We have all heard of “low carb" diets — the newest diet trend.

Are they effective?  Is this just another irrational fad?  Do they really work?

They don’t work. Losing fat is very difficult

to  sustain for the ‘average’ dieter due to several problems with low carb diets.

Some examples…..


Atkins:

The restriction on carbs is extreme during the first two weeks if you follow the popular Atkins diet.
 
The first couple of weeks allows you a measly 20 grams/day of carbs.  You’re talking 80 carb-calories/day.

Even a normal sized apple is on the plus side of 80 calories of carbs.

This 2 week straight, severe, low carb level can not be tolerated by the ‘average’ dieter. Fact is that your body needs more carbs than that for energy.  Over a long time period, dieters become weak….miserable…frustrated.
 

South Beach:

Although not as extreme as the Atkins Plan, even the South Beach Diet is more difficult to follow than should be necessary.

A diet needs to be incorporated easily into your lifestyle.  That’s the only way to long term effectiveness and consistent weight loss.
 
If diets make ‘average’ followers  feel ‘miserable’ and ‘weak’ throughout the day, weight loss success will not be achieved.

It is not that all low carb diets are as extreme as the Atkins Diet is, but the point is that most low carb diets are so hard to follow that “average dieters” most likely end up feeling hungry and weak through the day (which is not a good thing for reaching fat loss goals).

Our belief is that “low carbs” is not the answer to losing weight, since the truth is that your body needs all 3 types of calories to lose weight (protein, carbs, and fat).

Eating all three types of calories (protein, carbs, and fat) in the correct proportions is the best way to lose weight. Dieters fail because they don’t know what the right proportions of calories should be.
